The common thread throughout is a chilled Mediterranean vibe and a little off the beaten track. Whether you’re looking for your summer destination or a weekend get away take a look over our recommendations for your 2016 travel inspiration.
Sintra is an insanely beautiful Portuguese town that lies amidst the pine covered hills of the Serra de Sintra, just to the west of Lisbon. Set between the mountains and the sea, Sintra combines majestic historical heritage, luxuriant nature, cultural and a rich gastronomic reputation. The gastronomy of Sintra takes a Moorish influence as does a lot of the architecture which features dramatic tile work.
Not as prominent on the tourist trail as Lisbon but with enough of a buzz to feel alive it is a great weekend break. If you go make sure to check out Fabrica das Verdadeiras Queijadas da Sapa and Nau Palatina, two of the best restaurants in town!
Slovenia is an undiscovered gem of a country. It has the efficiency of the Austrians with the passion and food of the Italians. Piran is perfectly placed between Italy and Croatia on the Adriatic coast. It is an utterly charming port town which is chock full of the best restaurants, bars and stunning views. Get there before everyone else does!
Santorini sits in the Aegean sea, populated by whitewashed, cubist houses it is the ultimate Greek get away to chill out, soak up the sun, eat great food, drink Yeni Raki and swim in the beautifully clear seas. What more could you ask for from a summer destination?
